Local, Licensed & Insured
Ever had a rug turn sticky a week after a cleaning?
That tacky feeling is detergent the machine couldn't rinse back out. It dries inside the fiber and stays put, catching whatever the next pair of shoes carries onto the rug.

Rug pickup in Mountain Brook
A rug worth owning is worth washing properly
Most of the rugs we collect in Mountain Brook are hand-knotted wool, a good many with silk in the pattern, and a fair number were in the family before the house was. They deserve more than a scrub on the floor, and that is why the rug leaves with us.
On your doorstep the technician opens the rug out and reads it: the fiber in the pile and the foundation, how the dyes behave, where the wear is, and which marks are stains and which are the rug's own history. Then it is measured, the price is written down, and nothing is rolled until you have agreed to it.
Pickups and deliveries run Monday through Saturday, from the villages out to Cherokee Bend and Brookwood Forest, and the trip is free in both directions. Not a dollar changes hands until the rug is back in its room and you have looked it over.
Our Promise
Satisfaction guaranteed, on every rug we wash.
Unroll it, walk on it, look it over in your own light. Point out anything you'd like washed again and it goes back through the plant at no charge, whether you notice it at the door or a few days later. No store credit, no runaround.
How it works
How a Rug Runners pickup works
Book a cleaning
Call, text or book online. You pick the day, often the same day, and an exact arrival time, not a four-hour window.
We measure at your door
Our uniformed tech looks the rug over with you, measures it and writes the price down before it leaves the house.
Washed at our plant
Dusting, a wash matched to the fiber, a controlled dry and a final inspection, all backed by our guarantee.
Delivered back
Most rugs are home in 5–7 business days. We bring it in, roll it out and put the furniture back.
One visit, the whole house
Rugs to the plant, carpet and upholstery done at home
Upstairs carpet, the stair carpet, the sofa, the armchairs, the mattresses: the technician collecting the rugs can clean every one of them in place during the same visit. The upholstery is matched to its cleaning code, the carpet is cleaned with little moisture and no residue, and the room is yours again in about an hour.
A pet accident on a wool rug is a job for the plant, where the wash draws the urine salts out of the rug's foundation, and the treatment carries our 100% pet odor removal guarantee. Fringe repair, edge serging, reweaving and moth-damage repair are looked at during the wash and quoted on their own.
The measuring is done at your door while you watch, and the figure on the paper is the whole bill. A hand-knotted wool or silk rug typically runs a dollar or two a square foot, the same as a synthetic, and the hand-washing it needs is in the care, not the rate; every pickup starts at $99.
Satisfaction is guaranteed on every rug. Unroll it, live with it a day or two, and any spot that still nags at you earns the rug a second wash, at no charge.

Pickup streets in Mountain Brook
From Crestline Village to Cherokee Bend
The van works all four villages: Mountain Brook Village around Cahaba Road, Montevallo Road and Canterbury Road, with the Lane Parke apartments and the condos nearby; English Village on the slope of Red Mountain; Crestline Village around Church Street and the clock tower; and Cahaba Village with its townhouses above the shops off US-280.
Between the villages, the estate streets of Cherokee Bend, Brookwood Forest, Overton and Crestline wind through the trees along Mountain Brook Parkway and the bridle paths, past Jemison Park and the Old Mill on Shades Creek. A long driveway or a gate is no trouble; the rug is carried from wherever it lies to the van and back.

Dusting, dye tests and a slow dry
What a hand-knotted rug gets at our plant
An English Tudor with a Persian in the hall and a silk piece under the piano is a Mountain Brook house we know well, and the rugs in it have one thing in common: the dirt that ages them is grit in the foundation, not dust on the pile. So the first step at the plant is dusting, until the rug stops giving up sand.
Then the dyes are checked again and the wash is matched to the rug. Hand-knotted wool gets a cool hand wash, with the pile laid one way and the fringe cleaned on its own so it does not take dye from the body. Silk is washed with very little water and no agitation, then dried so the sheen and the pile direction hold. Antique rugs with thin spots or old repairs get the gentlest handling and a note at the door about what the wash can and cannot change.
After the rinse the rug dries completely, right through the foundation, before anyone rolls it, because a damp rug rolled up is where mildew and smells begin. A last inspection of pile, edges and fringe, and it rides back to Mountain Brook. Worn fringe, loose edges and moth damage can be put right once the rug is clean, through our repair and restoration service, quoted on its own.

Questions from Mountain Brook
What Mountain Brook owners ask about their rugs
Is a hand-knotted Persian rug washed differently from a machine-made one?
Yes. A hand-knotted rug has a wool or cotton foundation tied knot by knot, often with dyes that need testing one color at a time, and it is washed cool, by hand, with the pile direction respected and the fringe done separately. A machine-made rug has a tougher foundation and stable dyes, so it can take a brisker wash. The technician tells you which yours is at the door, and the wash is chosen to suit it; the square-foot rate is the same for both.
How does a pickup work from a village condo with an elevator?
Easily. Give us the building, the floor and where the van can stand for a few minutes, and the technician rides up, looks the rug over in your living room, measures it there and writes the price before anything is rolled. The rug goes down in the elevator with the technician, never dragged. Delivery is the same trip in reverse, with the rug unrolled and the furniture put back on it.
We're downsizing. Can you wash the rugs that won't fit and hold them for a while?
Yes. Rugs that are leaving a big house for a patio home near the villages are often washed first, then wrapped for storage or passed on to family. We wash them, dry them completely so nothing is wrapped damp, and keep them wrapped at our facility with the terms, including the length of the stay and the cost, put in writing at pickup. When you want one back, it is delivered to whichever address you give us.
What happens if the dye on my antique rug isn't stable?
The technician finds out at the door, before you decide, by testing the colors. A dye that moves gets a gentler, faster wash and a controlled dry so the color stays where it belongs, and you are told up front what that means for the result. If a rug is too fragile to wash safely, we say so at the door and talk through what can be done, which sometimes means leaving well alone.
Why is the fringe on my rug gray when the rest looks fine?
Because fringe is cotton on most wool rugs, and cotton takes on dirt faster than the pile around it. It also sits at the edge, where feet and the vacuum catch it. At the plant the fringe is cleaned on its own, separately from the body of the rug, and it comes back close to its original color. Fringe that has worn through or gone missing can be repaired or replaced once the rug is clean, quoted separately.
