Rug fiber protection · Birmingham, AL
Fiber protection for a freshly washed rug
A protective treatment applied at our plant once the rug is washed and dry, so a spill stays up on the pile long enough for a towel to catch it. The rug comes home clean, dry and a good deal harder to stain.

Ever had a rug turn sticky a week after a cleaning?
That tacky feeling is detergent the machine couldn't rinse back out. It dries inside the fiber and stays put, catching whatever the next pair of shoes carries onto the rug.

More about fiber protection
Spills, slowed down
Time to reach for a towel
Wool and cotton pile drink. A glass of red wine tipped on a bare wool rug is in the foundation before you have found the paper towels, and by then it is a stain. The protective treatment changes that first minute. It coats the fiber so liquid beads and sits on the surface for a while, and a spill you catch in that window comes up with blotting and leaves nothing behind.
It also helps with the slow kind of soiling. Dry dirt and dust have less to grip on a treated pile, so more of it comes up in the vacuum, and the rug stays looking washed for longer between washes. None of that replaces the wash itself; it just makes the clean one last.
Honest about protection
What protection handles, and what it leaves to the wash
Used the way it is meant to be, protection keeps most spills from becoming stains. Blot soon and gently, and the treatment goes on working until the next wash renews it.
Its limits are small: a spill left overnight, or a dog that favors one corner, can still win. A stain or a smell already in the rug is work for the wash, which always comes first. And if something does get past the treatment, book a pickup; if anyone can wash it out, we can.
Applied after the wash
How it goes on
Priced at your door
Ask for protection when you book or when the van arrives. The technician looks at the rug, confirms the fiber suits it, measures it and writes the protection on the same ticket as the wash.
The wash first
Dusted, washed by fiber, rinsed and dried, exactly as any rug we take in. The treatment only goes onto a clean rug.
Applied evenly
With the rug clean and dry, the treatment is applied across the whole pile, edge to edge, so there is no patch that drinks faster than the rest.
Dried again
The rug dries a second time, fully, before it is rolled, so nothing damp or tacky rides home with it.
Checked and delivered
One more look at the pile and the fringe, then the drive back. You check it on your floor and pay only then.
“Chris did a great job! He thoroughly explained the estimate options and was able to answer all of our questions. Our carpets and rugs are so much brighter and the couple of small stains we had are gone. Highly recommend!”

Where it earns its keep
Rugs that benefit most
Pale and cream rugs
Light pile shows everything. Protection keeps the first drip of coffee from becoming a permanent shadow.
Dining room rugs
Wine, gravy and whatever the toddler drops. The rug under a table takes more spills than any other in the house.
Runners by the door
Wet shoes, the dog's feet, the path everyone takes. A treated runner sheds the day-to-day dirt and vacuums cleaner.
Homes with pets and kids
A fresh puddle or a dropped juice cup sits on top for a while. You get a towel to it, and the rug forgives you.
Wool in a walkway
The path across a living room rug soils fastest. Protection slows that down and keeps the clean looking even.
Silk and viscose
Delicate pile that can mark from water alone. Ask the technician; some rugs suit the treatment and some are better left as they are.
Washed and protected on one trip
Add it to the pickup you are already booking
Protection is never a separate trip. The rug goes out for its wash, the treatment goes on at the plant once it is clean and dry, and it comes home on the same delivery, usually within 5 to 7 business days. It can ride along with a pet urine treatment or a repair as well: the wash first, then the repair, then the protection, then the drive home. One pickup, one written ticket, one delivery.
Adding it to a booking
What to say when you book
Say which rugs you want protected, or ask the technician at your door and decide after the fiber check. Leave the rugs down; they are inspected and measured where they are, and the price for the wash and the protection goes on paper together before anything is rolled.
Pickups and deliveries run Monday through Saturday, 7 AM to 5 PM. Book online, or call or text (205) 421-3993 and tell the office you want protection added.

Fiber protection questions
The questions we hear when someone asks whether it is worth it.
Does fiber protection make a rug stain-proof?
No. Nothing makes a rug stain-proof. The treatment makes the pile slower to take a spill in, so a glass of wine or a muddy paw sits on top for a while and comes up with a towel. Leave the spill overnight and it will still soak in. Think of it as time bought, not a shield. It is also no substitute for the wash: a rug that already has a smell in it needs the pet treatment, not a coat on top.
Can the protective treatment go on a rug you have not washed?
We apply it after the wash, and only then. The treatment coats whatever it lands on, so on a dirty rug it would coat the soil as well as the pile and lock the dull look in. After the wash the pile is clean and dry, the treatment goes onto the fiber itself, and it does what it is meant to. If you want protection, book the wash and tell us to add it, and the technician prices both at your door.
Will my wool rug feel or look different afterward?
It should not. The treatment is applied evenly after the wash and the rug is dried again before it is rolled, so there is no shine, no stiffness and no smell by the time it reaches your floor. You run your hand over the pile and feel wool. If your rug is a fiber the treatment does not suit, the technician says so at your door and you skip it.
How long does the protection hold up on a rug?
It wears off with use, so the walkway through the middle of the rug loses it before the edges under the sofa do. Vacuuming is fine; scrubbing a spot hard takes it off faster. We do not put a number of months on it, because a hallway runner and a rug under a dining table live very different lives. The simple rule is to have it renewed at the next wash, when the pile is clean again.
Does the protective treatment help with pet accidents?
Some, for a fresh one. A puddle caught early sits on the treated pile long enough to blot up most of it, which is a real help with a puppy. It will not keep urine out of the foundation if the accident is left for hours, and it does nothing for a smell that is already in the rug. For that you want the pet urine wash, and the two can be done on the same trip: the wash first, the protection after.
Is the protective treatment included in every wash?
No, it is an add-on you choose. Some rugs do not need it: a dark patterned wool in a quiet room hides a lot on its own. A pale rug under a dining table, a runner by the back door or anything in a house with toddlers is where it earns its keep. Say the word when you book, or at your door after the fiber check; the technician prices it by the size of the rug, writes it on the same ticket as the wash, and you say yes or no.
