Semester in, semester out
A college town runs on a calendar, and so do we
Montevallo fills up when the fall semester starts and empties out when spring ends, and a surprising number of rugs change hands in between. Some go back to a parent's garage, some stay with the next tenant, and a few get left on the curb because nobody wanted to deal with the smell. A wash fixes the middle case and saves the last one. The rug comes home flat, clean and dry, and it goes down in the next apartment like new.
The university is not the whole town, though. The streets around Main Street and Orr Park hold the rugs we most like to see: wool, hand-knotted, some of them in the family for a long while, in dining rooms and front rooms that get used. Those rugs have never fit in a washing machine and should never meet a rental carpet cleaner. They get a proper wash at the plant.
Montevallo is far enough out AL-25 that a pickup here waits for the route day. Book, and the office names the day the van comes through and the hour to expect it. The drive costs you nothing.

Campus to Main Street, and out the county roads
The pickup route covers the apartment complexes along Asheville Road, the rentals closest to campus on the west side, the streets east of Asheville Road, and the subdivision off Oxford Road and Canterbury Road on the south side. It also runs the roads out: Selma Road, Spring Creek Road and Middle Street, and AL-119 toward Alabaster and Maylene.
An apartment pickup is no harder than a house. The technician comes up the stairs, unrolls the rug where it lies, measures it and writes the price, then carries it down. Tell us at booking if parking is tight at your complex and we plan the stop for it. If the rug is coming out of a dining room near downtown, the technician moves the chairs off it and puts them back at delivery.
Two Montevallo rugs, two washes
The dining room wool and the rental synthetic get different washes
A hand-knotted wool rug and a polypropylene rug from a rental get the same first step and nothing else in common. Both are dusted dry before any water, so the sand that has been grinding at the foundation for years drops out. From there the wool is given a cool wash, a complete rinse and a flat dry, so the knots keep their shape and the dyes stay where they belong. The synthetic is washed harder and rinsed hard, because it can take it and because a rental rug usually needs it.
The dye on a wool rug that has been down a long time gets tested at your door before any decision is made. If a red looks likely to move, we wash it with that in mind and tell you first. Fringe is cleaned on its own so it comes back white and not gray. A pet accident on either kind of rug is washed out of the foundation, where the smell actually lives, and covered by our pet odor guarantee.
Then the rug dries completely, gets looked over, and rides back to Montevallo on the next route day through.

Can you pick up from a second-floor apartment on Asheville Road?
Yes. The technician comes up to the apartment, unrolls the rug where it is, reads the fiber, tests the dye, measures it and writes down the price, then rolls it and carries it down to the van. Stairs, a breezeway or a long walk from the parking lot do not change the price. If your complex has a gate code or assigned visitor parking, put it in the booking notes or text it to the office before the pickup day.
I rent out a house near campus. Can the rug be picked up between tenants without me there?
Yes, with one step done ahead of time. The rug gets measured and priced at the house, and someone has to say yes to that figure before it leaves. Most landlords approve it by text while the technician is standing there. Tell us how to get in, or leave the rug rolled by the door, and we deliver it back the same way. You pay once it is back and you or your tenant have looked it over.
Is semester move-out a good time to have a rug washed?
It is the best time. A rug that spent a school year in a rental has had shoes, spills and sometimes a pet on it, and it is about to be rolled up and stored, which locks all of that in. Washing it on the way out means it goes into the garage or the next apartment clean and dry. Book a few days ahead so the pickup lands before the lease ends.
Can the clean rug go to a different house than the one it came from?
Yes. A rug can be collected at one address and dropped at another: a student's apartment to a parent's house, a rental to the landlord's garage, an off-campus house to the new place across town. Give us both addresses when you book and tell us who will be at the second one to look the rug over. The delivery is free as long as the second address is inside the area we serve.
The rug in our dining room near Orr Park came from my parents. How do I tell if it is wool?
Turn a corner over. A wool rug usually shows the knots or the weave on the back and has a fringe that is part of the rug, not sewn on. A synthetic rug often has a backing of mesh or latex and a fringe that is stitched to the edge, and it feels slick where wool feels dry and springy. You do not have to be sure. The technician checks the fiber at your door before the rug is priced, and the wash is chosen from that, not from the label.
