Rug pickup in Birmingham

The van works the east side along Clairmont Avenue and Crestwood Boulevard: Forest Park, Avondale, Crestwood and the streets around Avondale Park, where the formal living and dining rooms tend to hold the wool and the hand-knotted pieces. Out past Eastwood Village and up toward Ruffner Mountain, Roebuck and Eastwood ride the same route.
South of downtown it is Highland Park, Five Points South, Glen Iris and Lakeview, with UAB and its hospitals in the middle of them. That is apartment and condo country, so we are used to elevators, loading zones and a text to ask which door. Bush Hills off I-20/59 and the blocks around Railroad Park and Regions Field are on the list too.

A Birmingham rug at the plant

A Birmingham route brings us everything from a jute runner out of a Lakeview apartment to a silk piece from a dining room in Forest Park, and no two of them get the same wash. Wool wants a cool wash and a flat dry. Silk and viscose want barely any water and a hand that never scrubs. The plant fibers, cotton and jute and sisal, want their own slower timetable, and a polypropylene runner from the back door wants the opposite: a hard wash and a long rinse.
Before a drop of water touches any of them, the loose grit is dusted from the foundation and every dye is tested, so a red border never bleeds into a cream field. Fringe gets its own wash so the tassels come home white. Then a full rinse and a full dry, because rolling a rug before it is dry through is how a musty smell begins, and one more inspection, pile and edges and tassels, before it rides home.

Does the van come to downtown Birmingham condos and apartments?
Yes, every week, around Highland Avenue, Five Points South and the blocks near Railroad Park. Tell us the building, where the van can stop, and whether there is an elevator, a doorman or a gate code to deal with, and the technician handles the rest. A rolled rug rides down an elevator without trouble; a large one just takes a minute longer. Delivery works the same way, with a text when the van is close.
I'm moving out of a place near UAB. Can my rug go to you before the lease ends?
Yes. Book the pickup for a day before you hand over the keys and clear the furniture off the rug if you can. The technician measures and prices it at the door, it rides to our plant, and you give us the new address for the delivery, in any town on our routes. Most rugs come home within 5 to 7 business days, so a rug picked up during the move is back about the time the boxes are unpacked.
Do you clean entry mats and runners for offices and restaurants downtown?
We do. A lobby runner, an entry mat or the rug under the host stand at a Pepper Place restaurant takes more foot traffic in a month than a bedroom rug sees in a year, and it is washed at the plant the same way, matched to its fiber. We pick up Monday through Saturday, 7 AM to 5 PM, and can collect several pieces at once. Office carpet is another thing the same technician can clean in place that day, if you want it.
Can the same visit clean the carpet upstairs in my Crestwood house?
Yes. Once the rugs are in the van, the same technician moves on to the stairs, the bedroom floors, the sofa and any mattress you want done, each cleaned where it stands. The carpet is cleaned with very little water, nothing sticky stays in the fiber, and it is dry in about an hour. Ask for both when you book and we set aside the time for it.
