How to read a pair
What to look for in a before and after
A good after photo is quieter than you expect. The rug does not glow; it just looks like itself again. These are the places to look.
- The field color. A cream or ivory ground that had drifted to the color of weak tea comes back to cream. That shift is foundation soil leaving, and it is the plainest sign of a real wash.
- The fringe. Gray and matted in the before, white or soft cream and separated in the after. Fringe that was torn or worn short stays torn or short; a wash cleans it, repair restores it.
- The edges of the pattern. Under a film of grit the lines of a design blur. Clean, the border sharpens and the small motifs inside it reappear.
- The pile. Flattened in the traffic lanes before, standing and even after, because the pile is groomed as it dries.
- What stays. A dye that ran years ago, a moth hole, a thin patch: an honest after shows them still there, cleaner and no larger. We would rather you see that here than at delivery.
The two things a photo cannot show are the smell and the feel. A washed wool rug smells of nothing and feels softer underfoot than it has in years, and the customer who wrote the review usually mentions one or the other.

Who takes the photos on this page?
Our own technicians, with a phone, at the customer's door. The before is taken when the rug is unrolled at pickup and the after when it is unrolled again at delivery, and the owner picks which pairs go on the site. Nothing here is a stock picture or a rug from somewhere else, and nothing has been dressed up for the camera.
Will my rug look like the after photos?
If what is wrong with it is soil, yes: grit, dust, gray fringe and pet accidents wash out. If part of it is damage, a dye that bled years ago, a moth hole, a patch worn to the foundation, that part will be cleaner but still there. The technician points out which is which at your door, before the rug leaves, so the after holds no surprises.
Why is this page sometimes short on photos?
Because only pairs the owner has picked appear here, and a pair has to be a real before and a real after of the same rug from one of our pickups. The page grows as jobs come through. If you want to see rugs like yours, text us a photo of it and we will send back pairs of the same kind of rug.
Can an after photo tell me whether my stain will come out?
Not on its own, because no two rugs or stains are the same. A tea stain on a synthetic rug and a years-old pet ring on wool look alike in a picture and behave very differently in the wash. What the photos do show is what a proper wash does to soil. For your rug, the technician studies the spot in daylight at pickup and tells you what to expect.
