Stays cleaner 3× Longer between cleanings measured against traditional steam cleaning

Ever had a rug turn sticky a week after a cleaning?

That tacky feeling is detergent the machine couldn't rinse back out. It dries inside the fiber and stays put, catching whatever the next pair of shoes carries onto the rug.

✓Nothing sticky left behindOur low-moisture method puts only a little solution into the rug and takes the soil out with it, so no soapy film is left for dirt to cling to.
✓Stays cleaner about 3× longerOn average, a rug cleaned our way holds its look about three times longer between visits than a rug given a traditional steam cleaning.
✓No re-soiling a month laterThe dull path that reappears a few weeks after a cleaning is almost always residue pulling soil back. Take the residue away and it stops happening.
✓Hand-washed at our plantFree pickup and delivery, and every rug is matched to a method that suits its fiber.

More about Mountain Brook Village

Rug pickup along Cahaba Road

Two villages on one road, and the bend beyond the interstate

Cahaba Road runs about two miles from Key Circle on Red Mountain down to Mountain Brook Parkway, and it strings this page together: English Village on the mountain's southern slope at the Birmingham line, then the Birmingham Zoo entrance, then Mountain Brook Village where Cahaba Road meets Hollywood Boulevard, Montevallo Road and Canterbury Road near US-280. Cherokee Bend is the residential section north of I-459, named for the bend in Old Leeds Road at the end of Cherokee Road. All three are part of Mountain Brook.

A pickup here begins with the rug flat on the floor, the technician testing the dyes, reading the fiber and the knots, pointing out anything that will lighten but not leave, and writing the price down before it is rolled. It is washed at our plant the way its fiber asks, dried all the way through, and brought back for you to look over before you pay.

Village streets on the route

Lane Parke to Old Leeds Road

In Mountain Brook Village the van covers the streets around Lane Parke, the Grand Bohemian Hotel and the shops, the apartments at The Residences at Lane Parke, and the homes toward Mountain Brook Club and Jemison Park, the greenway along Mountain Brook Parkway and Shades Creek whose trail joins the Nature Trail and the Watkins Trace Trail along Cahaba Road.

Up the hill, English Village is restaurants, antique shops and galleries around 20th and 21st Avenues South, with houses, small apartment buildings and duplexes mixed in; the deeds there once required an English style of architecture, and it shows. Across I-459, Cherokee Bend is single-family homes on walkable streets around Cherokee Bend Elementary, Cherokee Road and Old Leeds Road, and it is on the same run.

The rugs of the villages and the Bend

Antique Persians, silk, and the runner up the stair hall

Mountain Brook was planned with estate-sized lots on winding roads in a forest setting, and English Tudor is common, which means formal dining rooms and stair halls. The rugs in them are often the real thing: antique Persian and Oriental pieces, hand-knotted wool, silk accents in a study or a bedroom. Each one is washed by hand and by fiber. Wool gets cool water and dries lying flat, so it comes back the size it went out. Silk gets almost no water and no scrubbing, and dries slowly enough that the luster stays. Fringe is cleaned on its own and comes back white.

A stair hall usually means a runner. If it is loose, it rides along with the rest, gets its own wash and dry at the plant, and is laid back on the stairs when it comes home. An antique with thin spots, a loose edge or fringe worn through is pointed out at the door, washed as gently as it needs, and any repair is quoted separately once it is clean.

Cherokee Bend sends the family-room rug that takes the kids and the lab, with the carpet and the sofa done in the home while it is away. Each of them is measured at the door, priced for its size on a ticket you keep, at the same rate for silk, wool or synthetic, on average one to two dollars a square foot, and brought home with satisfaction guaranteed.

Village questions

What customers in the villages and Cherokee Bend ask

How is a hand-knotted Persian from a Mountain Brook dining room handled differently?

By hand, from the first look to the last. At your door the technician tests each color for bleeding, reads the foundation and the knots, and points out thinning, loose edges or worn fringe. At the plant the dry soil is coaxed out before any water, the wash is cool and unhurried, the fringe is washed separately, and the rug dries flat so it keeps its shape. If it could use a repair, that is priced separately once the wash is done.

Can you collect a rug from an apartment at Lane Parke or in English Village?

Yes. The Residences at Lane Parke and the small apartment buildings and duplexes in English Village have shared entrances and, in some cases, parking decks, so the pickup is set for a time and handed off at your door. Tell us the building, the floor and the best place for the van to stop, and the technician texts when close. The rug is measured and priced inside, rolled and carried down.

Does a silk rug come back with the same sheen it had?

Yes, when it is washed the way silk asks for. Silk and viscose are the fibers a careless clean ruins: too much water, scrubbing or a fast hot dry flattens the pile and dulls the shine. At the plant a silk rug gets very little water, no agitation, and a slow dry that leaves the shine and the lie of the pile as they were. The dyes are tested first, and the technician says at pickup if the rug needs anything beyond the usual care.

We're in Cherokee Bend with two kids and a lab. Can the family-room rug and the carpet be done on one visit?

Yes, and that is the usual Cherokee Bend booking. The rug rides to the plant, where a UV light has already shown the technician where the dog has been and the wash pulls the urine salts out from deep in the knots, and our 100% pet odor removal guarantee stands behind that. While it is away, the same technician cleans the carpet and the sofa where they sit, using little water, dry in about an hour and safe around kids and pets.
