Ever had a rug turn sticky a week after a cleaning?
That tacky feeling is detergent the machine couldn't rinse back out. It dries inside the fiber and stays put, catching whatever the next pair of shoes carries onto the rug.
More about Crestline
Rug pickup in Crestline
The village with the city hall, the library and the tot lot in it
Crestline is one of Mountain Brook's three original villages, centered on Church Street between Montevallo Road and Euclid Avenue, just east of the Country Club of Birmingham and in Shades Valley on the Mountain Brook side of Red Mountain. It grew out of Crestline Heights, and it is the city's civic middle: the Municipal Complex, O'Neal Library and the Crestline Tot Lot all sit within a short walk of each other.
The houses around the village are on a connected grid, close enough to walk to Crestline Elementary, and the rugs in them get walked on accordingly. When one of them needs a wash, the van stops at the house, the technician unrolls it, checks the fiber and the dyes, runs the tape and writes the price on a ticket for you to keep. The rug does not leave until you have agreed to that figure, and the drive there and back costs you nothing.
Around Crestline Village
Church Street to Montclair Road
The van works Church Street and Oak Street by the library, Jackson Boulevard past the elementary school and the Tot Lot, Euclid Avenue with its new construction, and the side streets like Cherry Street and Montrose Road that run back toward the country club. Montevallo Road is the usual way in; Montclair Road is the city line, and the Birmingham side of it is a Birmingham pickup with the same van.
Jemison Park, Overton Park, Irondale Furnace Park and Canterbury Park are all close, and the Crestline Heights Shopping Center on Church Street is the landmark the technician looks for. The few condos and rentals near the village are on the route too; parking is tight there, so pickups are booked for a time and done at the door.
Crestline's rugs
Hand-knotted wool in the dining room, cotton in the playroom
Mountain Brook was laid out with estate-sized lots on winding roads, and English Tudor is the style you see most. The dining-room and living-room rugs in them are wool and Oriental, often hand-knotted, and they are handled as such: colors tested one at a time at your door, the fringe done separately, a slow cool wash, drying laid flat, and any worn edge noted at pickup.
Crestline is also a young-family village, with a fenced playground in the middle of it and an elementary school a block away, so the other rug in the house is the cotton or soft wool one that takes juice, crayons and the dog. Cotton is a plant fiber and gets its own slower wash and dry so it never browns; the wool gets a cool wash so it keeps its shape. If the dog has been at it, the UV light shows where, the wash carries the urine salts out of the weave, and the 100% pet odor removal guarantee stands behind the result.
Two-story houses here keep a runner in the upstairs hall, and a loose runner rides along with the rest, washed on its own, and goes back down the way it lay. Whatever the rug and whichever street, the price is worked out from its size at pickup, around one or two dollars on every square foot on average and the same for every fiber, written down, and matched by the invoice at delivery, with satisfaction guaranteed on the wash.

Crestline questions
What Crestline customers ask before a pickup
Is Crestline in Mountain Brook or Birmingham, and does it matter for a pickup?
Both, and no. Crestline Village and the streets around Church Street, Euclid Avenue and Jackson Boulevard are Mountain Brook; Birmingham's own Crestline neighborhood starts directly across Montclair Road, and the two share the 35213 ZIP code. The same van covers both sides of the road with the same free pickup, the same wash at our plant and the same guarantee, so give us the address and do not worry about the city line.
Can you collect a rug from a condo by the village when there is nowhere for a van to park?
Yes. A pickup needs only a brief stop at the curb: the rug is unrolled, checked, measured and priced inside, then rolled and carried out. Tell us about any entry code or where a van can legitimately stop near your building and we work with it. Delivery is the same quick stop, with a text as the van gets close, and the rug is laid back out in its room before we leave.
Does an Oriental rug need a different wash from the cotton one in the playroom?
Completely different, and both happen at the plant. The hand-knotted wool Oriental has every color tested first, is washed cool so it never felts, has its fringe cleaned separately and is dried flat. The cotton playroom rug is a plant fiber that drinks water and can brown if it dries slowly, so it gets a light wash and dries on its own timetable. You see both prices in writing before either one leaves.
We entertain a lot. Can the dining-room rug be back before the weekend?
Not if you book on Wednesday. A rug is usually away 5 to 7 business days, and the slow part is the drying, which we never cut short because a rug rolled damp comes home smelling that way. If there is a dinner on the calendar, book the pickup a couple of weeks ahead and tell us the date; the office tells you the delivery day once the rug has dried and passed its final inspection.
