Local, Licensed & Insured
Ever had a rug turn sticky a week after a cleaning?
That tacky feeling is detergent the machine couldn't rinse back out. It dries inside the fiber and stays put, catching whatever the next pair of shoes carries onto the rug.
More about Edgewood
Rug pickup in Edgewood
Homewood's walking neighborhood, on the far side of Red Mountain
Edgewood is the part of Homewood where people walk: to Edgewood Elementary, to the shops and cafés at Oxmoor Road and Broadway Street, to Central Park and the community center, to the middle school from St Charles Street. It sits in Shades Valley due south of downtown Birmingham, and its southern edge is Lakeshore Drive, which with South Lakeshore Drive once formed the straightaways of a racetrack that was never finished.
All that walking ends up on the rugs. When one of them is due, the van comes to the house, the technician opens the rug out, reads the fiber, checks the dyes, measures it and gives you the price in writing. It leaves only when you have said yes, rides to our plant for the dusting and the wash, and comes home dry inside 5 to 7 business days most of the time. Pickup and delivery are free, here and across Homewood.
Edgewood, street by street
Oxmoor and Broadway down to Lakeshore Drive
The van works the grid around the business district: Roseland Drive, a street of nothing but houses a block or two south of Oxmoor; Central Avenue climbing up from Rosedale to Oxmoor Road and carrying on as East Edgewood Drive; St Charles Street running from Oxmoor toward Griffin Brook; College Avenue by the elementary school. Edgewood Creamery and Homewood Pharmacy at the corner are the landmarks the technician looks for, and Central Park beside the community center is where the route turns.
Shops, cafés and the lobbies of Edgewood Presbyterian, Dawson Memorial Baptist and Trinity United Methodist send entry rugs and runners on the same run as the houses. One route, every address down to Lakeshore Drive, and a text as the van turns onto your street.
Edgewood's working rugs
Cotton and wool that strollers, cleats and dogs live on
Edgewood is a single-family neighborhood, and a family one, so the rugs we collect here are working rugs: the cotton flat-weave in the playroom, the wool rug in the living room that the stroller gets parked on, the runner inside the back door that takes the cleats. Each gets the wash its fiber needs. Cotton gets a gentle wash and a dry of its own so it never browns. Wool is washed cool and dried flat. A synthetic runner is washed hard and rinsed until nothing is left in it.
Many of these houses have been renovated, and a renovation means rugs that come out of storage with months of dust in the foundation and go back down on new floors. That grit comes out in the dusting, long before the wash. With the rugs at the plant, the technician cleans the carpet upstairs, the sofa and the chairs in place, with little water, dry in about an hour, and leaves no film for the next round of crumbs to cling to.
Dogs are part of the walking life here, and the family rug usually shows it. A UV light at the door finds the accidents, the wash gets the urine salts out of the rug rather than covering them up, and the treatment carries our 100% pet odor removal guarantee. Size sets the price for each of these rugs, on average a dollar or two a square foot whatever the fiber; you hold it in writing before the van pulls away, and the rug comes home with satisfaction guaranteed.

Edgewood questions
What Edgewood customers want to know first
Does the Edgewood pickup include the streets south of Oxmoor, like Roseland Drive?
Yes, all of them. Edgewood runs from the business district at Oxmoor Road and Broadway Street down to Lakeshore Drive, and the van covers every house in between: Roseland Drive, Central Avenue and East Edgewood Drive, St Charles Street, College Avenue by the elementary school. The rest of Homewood rides the same route, so the address is all we need.
Our rug has been rolled up in the garage since the remodel. What happens to it?
It gets unrolled at your door first, because a rug that sat rolled for months tells its own story: dust worked into the foundation, a flat spot, sometimes a musty smell. The technician reads the fiber, tests the dyes, notes anything the storage did to it, measures it and writes the price down. At the plant the dust is taken out dry before the wash, the smell leaves with the wash, and the rug dries flat. If the roll ever got wet, that is wet-rug treatment, quoted after the inspection.
Can the entry rug from my shop on Oxmoor Road go out and come back without closing the door?
Yes. Entry rugs and runners from the shops, cafés and church lobbies around Oxmoor and Broadway take more feet in a week than most living rooms see in a year, and they are washed at the plant the same way, by fiber. Book the pickup for a time that suits the shop within our Monday to Saturday hours, send several pieces together if you like, and the carpet inside can be cleaned on the same stop while the rugs are away.
Is the cotton flat-weave from the playroom worth washing, or is it too far gone?
Almost always worth it. Cotton is a plant fiber, so it is washed with a light hand and dried at its own pace to keep it from browning, and the dusting beforehand takes out the crumbs and grit ground into it. Juice and mud come out; a marker line or a stain that set years ago may lighten without vanishing, and the technician shows you those at the door so you decide before the rug leaves.
